|Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Virginia Beach is seeking a Coordinator of Religious Education. The coordinator will be responsible for Christian formation for children in Grades K-5, sacramental preparation and Children’s Liturgy and will work in collaboration with the parish staff and work directly with parents, catechists, aides and other volunteers. The Coordinator of Religious Education reports directly to the pastor. Main responsibilities include: • Coordinates the Christian Formation Program for grades K-5 and the adaptive curriculum for children with special needs. • Integrates Catholic Social Teaching into all faith formation and works in collaboration with parish social ministries. • Supervises the volunteer coordinator for Children’s Liturgy program and serves as a resource as needed. • Coordinates the summer Vacation Bible School program. • Works with staff in providing a safe environment for all, including securing background checks and VIRTUS training for all volunteers working with children. • Coordinates the Sacramental Preparation Programs for RCIA adapted for children, Baptism, Reconciliation, and First Eucharist. • Oversees the weekend nursery coverage. • Collaborates with and is a staff liaison to the family faith formation ministry. The Coordinator of Religious Education will be evaluated by the Pastor based on the program’s goals, objectives and methods developed by the Coordinator of Religious Education in collaboration with the pastor. The pastor may consult with volunteers and staff who have worked with the coordinator. Evaluations will be conducted yearly in accordance with the performance appraisal policies of the Diocese. This position is full-time (40 hours/week) and includes weekend working days (Sundays during the school year) as well as periodic weekend events and evening classes. The Coordinator of Religious Education will be available for regular and consistent office hours during part of the normal working day. Attendance at local, regional and diocesan meetings related to the position will necessitate some time away from the parish. The work schedule is established through dialogue with the pastor and can be adjusted to maintain workflow and avoid excessive hours.|
|A combination of a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and two years of professional work experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Religious Studies, or Philosophy and three years professional experience working in a parish is preferred. The Coordinator of Religious Education’s educational and ministerial background should provide the following competencies: • Thorough knowledge of Church teachings and theology including Catholic Social Teaching with the ability to relate that knowledge to the ministry. • Working knowledge of the theories and practices related to the education of children and adults. Thorough knowledge of diocesan and parish policies regarding the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Matrimony. • Knowledge of child development and application and an understanding of multi-sensory learning. • Knowledge of adaptive curriculums for children with special needs. • Ability to work in collaboration with staff (interpersonal/relational skills, group process). • Administrative skills (planning, personnel, volunteers, budget.) • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as electronic and social media platforms. The ability to learn proprietary and web-based software including databases and online form creation. • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. The Coordinator of Religious Education must be a practicing Catholic in good standing. The Coordinator must adhere to Catholic teaching and demonstrate a commitment to the Church in the performance of their ministry.
