Part-Time K-5 Religious Education Coordinator at Church of the Holy Family (Virginia Beach)

Church of the Holy Family seeks a part-time coordinator for catechesis of children in grades K through 5 and to coordinate sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

This coordinator will also oversee the Early Childhood and OCIC Coordinator’s work with Baptism, CLOW and OCIC.

This coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the Director of Evangelization to carry out all responsibilities.  Major duties and responsibilities include collaboration with parish staff and working directly with parents, catechists, aides and other volunteers.  This coordinator will lead the grade K-5 Christian Formation program on Sunday mornings at Church of the Holy Family, plan the curriculum and recruit catechists and other volunteers to assist with the program.  He or she will also schedule and coordinate the parent and child preparation programs for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, making sure that sacramental guidelines are followed and that necessary documentation for sacraments is collected and recorded.  He or she will also participate in and support parish-wide formation and evangelization, assisting with the parish Vacation Bible School.

Requirements include basic knowledge of Church teachings and Catholic sacramental theology, in particular, the sacraments of initiation.  The coordinator should have experience in sacramental formation and demonstrate pastoral skills and deep respect for cultural diversity. The coordinator will have strong communication skills with adults and children alike and be successful working in a team setting.  The position also requires the ability to work independently and under stressful circumstances.  Given the position and its responsibilities in our parish, the coordinator needs to be a Catholic in good standing and must be VIRTUS-trained or eligible for VIRTUS-training.
