Youth Minister at St. John Neumann Catholic Church (Powhatan)

St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Powhatan is seeking a part -time Youth Minister.

Saint John Neumann Youth Minister is responsible for coordinating the parish Youth Ministry program for grades 6-12. The Youth Minister will work to grow and develop our middle and high school youth by leading them closer to Christ and helping to form intentional disciples through an engaging and creative ministry. This person will support and maintain a safe and moral environment for minors by conducting themselves according to the goals and mission of the Roman Catholic Church. They should be a practicing Catholic in good standing and an active participant in the Sacraments. The Youth Minister will collaborate with the pastor, Director of Religious Education, other employees, and volunteers as part of youth formation.

Duties:

The following are the specific duties associated with this position.

  • Develops and executes a youth ministry program for 6th-12th grade youth of the parish to include spiritual formation, service opportunities, and social and community building elements.
    • Oversees Sunday morning middle school programming and other activities.
    • Oversees Sunday evening high school programming and other youth activities.
    • Provides opportunities for participation and involvement of the youth in the life of the parish, including taking a leading role in coordinating the youth Mass.
  • Promotes an environment in which the youth can foster a relationship with God.
  • Recruits, trains, and leads a volunteer adult core team that ministers to 6th-12th grade youth.
  • Forms and supports the Youth Leadership Team (11th-12th Grade).
  • Promotes and facilitates participation in Diocesan sponsored events. (Busch Gardens Youth Day, Epic Middle School Event, Diocesan Youth Conference, other retreat opportunities, etc.)
  • Attend Diocesan and Deanery youth minister trainings and meetings.
  • Ensures that all adult volunteers are in compliance with safe environment policies and procedures.
  • Attends and participates in parish and staff meetings as required.
  • Attends Diocesan Youth Ministry meetings and training events (or participates in on-line training) as required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience/Education: Some related experience in youth ministry/religious education is preferred; Pathways certification.
  • Supervision: Will be required to supervise volunteers.
  • Coordination: Coordinates with parish staff and others when planning specific events or activities.
  • Sunday morning and Sunday evening commitment required for middle school and high school meeting times. The rest of the hours are flexible.
  • Attendance at the monthly youth Mass.
