Part Time Coordinator of Youth Ministry at Our Lady of the Rosary (Crozet)

Our Lady of the Rosary is actively seeking an energetic, dynamic individual who is enthusiastic about engaging the youth of our parish in faith formation, fellowship, and youth events that bring them into a closer relationship with Jesus and help grow the youth as disciples of Christ.

Goals

  1. The Youth Minister’s focus is around youth grades 6-12.
  2. This staff member also has focused engagement in an interactive fellowship ministry with youth and parents, as well as supports catechists and volunteers.
  3. The youth minister utilizes the Life Teen® program, designed to engage youth, to provide faith formation and encourage inclusion in parish life and leads the preparation classes for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Responsibilities

  • This is a part-time, 12-month, 15-19 hour per week, position in complementary to the Religious Education Coordinator.
  • The Coordinator of Youth Ministry aims to attract youth to a life-giving encounter with Jesus through personal witness, effective teaching, community building, and discipleship.
  • The coordinator will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Catholic Faith and the Church’s teachings, being able to transmit it in a way that is both richly informative and deeply transformative.
  • Recruit, train and mentor youth leaders, as well as core team volunteers, to implement the eight components of youth ministry as found in Renewing the Vision: A Framework for Catholic Youth Ministry, USCCB, 1997
  • Schedule, plan and lead weekly and seasonal youth events throughout the year.
  • Create, guide, and/or lead youth retreats.
  • Organize trips to local, diocesan, national and international youth events.
  • Submits, manages, and maintains a budget for youth ministry.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Catholic teaching, theology, tradition, and doctrines.
  • Practicing Catholic who adheres to and models the Church’s teachings.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Familiarity with adolescent faith development, engagement, and their social and cultural environment.
  • Ability to maintain proper boundaries with youth and knowledge of Child Protection policies.
  • Ability to engage in one-to-one and group dynamics with young people, parents, & Parish Staff
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, including time management and event planning.
  • Strong social media skills and basic knowledge of Google tools.
  • VIRTUS and Pathways training is a requirement.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in theology is preferred but not required.
