The Cluster Parishes of Portsmouth and Chesapeake are seeking a full time Pastoral Musician.

This position serves both Church of the Resurrection and Saint Mary Catholic Churches.  The Pastoral Musician manages the music component of the liturgy for both churches including Saturday evening mass and Sunday morning masses.  Duties include; planning music for parish liturgies and worship aids, assist in planning parish liturgical celebrations, assist in planning of funerals and weddings.  The Pastoral Musician will serve as the primary director and accompanist for masses, direct other instrumental accompanists, schedule and conduct rehearsals, prepare an annual budget for music ministry, maintain copyright reporting as required.  The Pastoral Musician will coordinate with the Children and Youth Coordinators, oversee music requirements for the Children and Youth Ministries special services, recruit, train, schedule and rehearse Children’s and Youth Choirs.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and musical requirements, to include a variety of liturgical preferences in style.
• Proficiency on piano, organ, and voice required, proficiency in other instruments a plus
• Undergraduate degree in music performance, music education, choral studies, or similar field.
• Must be able to work with various ages and musical abilities.
• Although religion is not a specific qualification requirement, applicant must lead a life in harmony with general Christian principles.
