Youth Programs Coordinator at Sacred Heart Center (Richmond)

Sacred Heart Center is seeking a Youth Programs Coordinator.

The Youth Program Coordinator leads and directs the planning, coordination, administration, and evaluation of Sacred Heart Center’s youth and children’s programs, in alignment with Sacred Heart Center’s mission, values, and vision.

Working Relationships: Supervises a team of paid and unpaid staff which includes facilitators and assistant facilitators for each program, partner teachers, volunteers, and interns. Interacts with all other departments: Adult Education, Community Initiatives, Volunteers, Operations, Development, and Communications, among others.

Responsibilities and Tasks: The Youth Program Coordinator leads and directs the planning, coordination, administration, and evaluation of Sacred Heart Center’s youth and children’s programs, and encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including but not limited to the following:

  • Lead short- and long-term planning to sustain and strengthen current program infrastructure, aligned with Strategic Plan, needs assessments, and resources available; expand as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation, and supervision of youth program curricula, goals, objectives, activities, calendar, and schedule.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, including student attendance, retention, educational progress, and facilitator performance against strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate student outreach, registration, and maintenance of student records.
  • Coordinate payment processing, financial recordkeeping, and account reconciliation for youth programs.
  • Establish and maintain a collaborative work environment that leverages the talents and strengths of staff and provides appropriate autonomy to be productive at the highest levels.
  • In partnership with the Director of Programs, ensure that youth programs, activities, staff, and volunteers follow all laws, Diocesan regulations, program procedures, policies, and protocols, and child and youth development best practices.
  • Collaborate with other Program Coordinators to connect youth and families with wraparound services as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: 40 hours weekly. The hours for this position are typically 9am-6pm with one evening shift (4-7pm or 6-8pm) required per week, and other occasional evening and weekend hours required. 

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time, and frequent near vision use for reading and computer use.
  • The capacity to move around the office, event venues, and other locations as required, including the ability to climb stairs, navigate uneven terrain, and carry out physical tasks associated with program and event setup and teardown.
  • Proficient use of hands and fingers to handle paperwork, operate office equipment, and perform tasks such as filing, typing, and data entry accurately and efficiently.
  • The ability to lift and carry items which may vary in weight but could range from light to moderately heavy objects, 50 pounds.

 Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required. Bicultural preferred.
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and a minimum two years’ experience in a human service organization or youth development field preferred. Candidates without a formal degree are encouraged to apply, provided they can demonstrate equivalent knowledge and capabilities relevant to the position.
  • Exemplary record of strong communication and interpersonal skills and empathy and the ability to connect and collaborate with people from a variety of backgrounds and personalities and forge strong relationships, especially with children, youth, and families.
  • Strong leadership skills and a positive attitude to provide direction and coaching to program staff and volunteers and foster a collaborative and supportive team culture.
  • Highly skilled in time management, confidentiality, and grace under pressure.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Sacred Heart Center’s mission.
  • Highly proficient in use of computers and digital word processing, data management, and other technological tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Suite, Apricot database management software or similar program, Zoom/Google Meets, and Trello; the willingness to learn other software programs as needed.
